    The Toddler Community is Monday-Friday.

Everything in the toddler community is scaled to the child's size and is designed to be safe and attractive. The classroom is designed as an inviting extension of the home — a transition between the child's home and entrance into the primary classroom awaiting him.

Movement is fundamental in the toddler community. The new walkers are learning what it means to be mobile, to coordinate hands, arms, eyes, and their developing will. Besides room to move about, there are apparatus that appeal to the toddler and develop skill, coordination and confidence. The children learn interesting tasks that develop the small motor skills as well. Practical activities not only respond to the toddlers' unconscious need to move and develop skills, but they also contribute to the life of this little community (no more than 8) or replicate what the child sees at home. The guide knows what to expect and what to offer each individual, based on observation and her knowledge of the developmental characteristics of this critical stage of childhood. The toddler community never fails to amaze observers with its atmosphere of peace and purposeful activity.

The following are among the categories of activity in the toddler community.
  • Gross motor activities
  • Psycho-sensor motor activities (manipulation)
  • Language
  • Music and art activity
  • Care of the self (e.g. dressing)
  • Preparing to eat
  • Eating together
  • Toilet training
  • Cooking
